VE Day Celebrations across The Mercury
The Mercury Shopping Centre marked the 80th year of VE day with various different activities.
The Breakfast Club spent their Monday morning making decorations in preparation for VE Day. They worked together using red, white, and blue felt to make bunting. One of the members brought in napkins to make flowers, embracing the tradition of reusing and reducing waste.

By working together, they were able use a bit of material to create beautiful decorations for The Mercury.
On May 7, The Breakfast Club and Di's Diamonds enjoyed a street party style celebration on Level One of The Mercury.
“The VE Day celebrations at The Mercury have been incredibly special. The performances from our talented dancers and singers truly captured the spirit of the day. It was heartwarming to see so many people, including our local community clubs, come together to watch, reflect and join in. We’re proud to honour this moment in history and grateful to everyone who helped make it so memorable.”

May 8 marked 80 years since the end of the second world war. Eastside Community Heritage displayed a history exhibition and invited shoppers and passersby to celebrate in a beautifully unique way — by sharing stories. These stories where recorded to be a part of a wider havering history project.
The response was positively phenomenal. The exhibition was viewed by many and several individuals, who had been children during the war, shared stories passed down from their parents and grandparents. A local resident even brought in their wartime medals and recounted their families remarkable history. Thank you again to Eastside Community Heritage and our community for keeping our rich and colourful Havering history alive
