On Monday, 13 August, the 14th Mercury Mall Retailer Awards took place at the Maylands Gold Club in Romford when the leading lights amongst the Mercury Mall shops and stores were recognised for their hard work in the Centre over the passed year, with all the winners and nominees from the forty two shops and stores by a public on line vote.

The award ceremony sponsored by the Romford Recorder and VIP guests included the Mayor of Havering, Dilip Patel and his wife Nisha who presented the ‘Community Recognition Award’ to Liz Brown from Asda who continually supports initiatives such as the local Food Bank and helping to teach children about food in schools.

The evening was filled with excitement and anticipation and was a really great opportunity for everyone to come and celebrate their successes together.

Themed around James Bond’s Casino Royale, the night unfolded with a three course meal, spy games, a casino experience and a fun photo booth, donated to the event from sponsors Photo-me.

The Mercury Mall, who run this annual event, believe it is important that both centre staff and retailers alike find time to celebrate their successes together.

“It is warming to see our centre community being proud of their achievements this year,” says Natalie Bays, Deputy Centre Manager.

“Congratulations and a big well done to everyone who was nominated and went home with an award.  From big high-street names to smaller individual businesses, everyone had an equal chance to win with a customer centric voting system.”

There are eight awards in total, including one for the ‘Shining Star’ of the Centre.

This year’s winner Sarah Bryant, of The Entertainer, elevated the true meaning of the award through her fantastic service and numbers of reviews of kindness extended to families and children who shop within the store.

Other winners on the night included TechHouse for their friendly Customer Experience in Store; ASDA for their Eco Friendly work and Liberty Flowers and McDonalds who both took home the Small and Large Retailer the Year Award respectively.

New store Cards Direct were delighted to receive the award for Visual Merchandising.

“The ability to award people for what they have done for the Centre is truly inspirational, and all of the winners on the evening are so deserving of their accolade,” says Spencer Hawken, Centre Manager.

Each of the awards was sponsored by companies that work closely alongside the Centre, including PES, who provide all of the Centre’s planned engineering services; Pavegen whom have recently installed Europe’s first energy generating floor within The Mercury and Messages PR who provide the marketing support and events.

“We are incredibly grateful for all of the continued support from our sponsors,” says Natalie.  The best part about the sponsorship programme for us is celebrating the evening together with them. And we did just that.”

“We value what our shoppers have to say – after all, they are our life blood,” says Spencer Hawkin, Manager of Mercury Mall.

“Our shops and stores and the people who work in the Centre are obviously doing a fantastic job based on the number of people who took the time to vote.”

Announcements of all finalists and winners have been released on Instagram and Facebook @themercurymall.
